GUJRAT: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her family in the name of honour at Odha village in Kakrali police precincts on Wednesday.

Reports said Amna Sehar was in a relationship with a young man from the nearby Bhaati village and had gone with him three days ago.

However, her family managed to bring her back home on Tuesday, June 23. Following her return, an altercation reportedly took place between the girl and her family members.

The girl’s parents and two brothers allegedly subjected her to severe physical torture before killing her through asphyxiation.

The family initially claimed that Amna had died of natural causes and was preparing for her burial when police arrived after being informed by local residents.

Police have registered a case against the deceased’s parents, Mazhar Iqbal and Ayesha Shaheen, and her two brothers, Usman and Suleman, on charges of murder. Five women, including Raheela and four unidentified women, have also been booked for allegedly giving the deceased a bath (ghusal) and attempting to wash away signs of torture from her body.

The case has been registered against 10 suspects under Sections 302, 311, 201, 147 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Tanda ASI Iftikhar Ahmed.

A spokesperson for Gujrat police said two of the nominated suspects had been detained and that further investigation was underway.
