Adil to face Shoaib in final

LAHORE, July 11: Adil Atlas from NWFP and Shoaib Hassan from Punjab are set to clash in the final of the Punjab national junior squash championship boy's U-19 event at the Punjab Squash Complex on Tuesday.

In the girl's under-19 final, Zoya Khalid (Punjab) and Maria Toor (NWFP) are to meet.

Adil entered the final after eliminating the challenge from Riaz Ali (Punjab) in 21 minutes, winning the semifinal 9-4, 9-3, 9-0.

Adil seemed to be in hurry as he did not allow Riaz at any moment to pose any threat.

With his fine court coverage and powerful forehand Adil thrilled the spectators. Shoaib sent Kashif, packing also in just 42 minutes on the court to carve out win with the score being 9-3, 9-3, 9-7.

In the boys' U-17, Waqar Mehboob (NWFP) and Rana Yaqoob (Punjab) qualified for the final.

Waqar outclassed Asif Khan (PAF) 9-5, 9-2, 9-3 while Yaqoob edged past Tahir Iqbal (PAF) 9-5, 9-2,9-1.

In under-15, Aurangzeb Khan (Punjab) was stretched to four sets by Farhan Zaman (PAF) before winning 10-8, 0-9, 10-8, 10-8 to march into the final.

He will meet Sheikh Saqib (Punjab) in the final, who outplayed Tahir Iqbal (PAF) 9-6, 9-2, 9-1.

Nasir Iqbal (PAF) and Hamza Bukhari (Punjab) struggled hard before qualifying for the final of the U-13 event.

Nasir went the full distance to oust spirited Naimatullah (NWFP) after a 56-minutes clash, winning 9-6, 9-10, 9-6, 6-9, 9-7. Hamza defeated Haroon Rasheed (Punjab) 9-6, 4-9, 9-7, 9-4.

In the girls' under-15 semifinals, Habib Khan (Sindh) and Roshna Mehboob (Punjab) will vy for the title.
