Bannu Red stun PAF

LAHORE, July 11: Bannu Red caused sensation when they overwhelmed former national champion PAF 3-0 in the PFF Cup at KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi in a Group-C tie on Tuesday.

In other matches, Mauripur Baloch also surprised PPWD 3-1 at Karachi while Dera XI snatched precious point holding HEC scoreless at Islamabad.

Bannu Red opened the scoring in the 35th minute through midfielder Jalauddin who leapt above everybody to head home. The second session saw total domination of Bannu who put the match beyond reach of PAF through Badshah's sweetly-timed goals in the 60th and 68th minute.

In Group-A, Karachi's Mauripur Baloch cut PPWD to size in 3-1 win at CDGK Stadium. The hero for Mauripur was winger Muhammad Ilyas who gave them 20th minute lead off a free-kick. PWD, down 0-1 at interval, went into further trouble when Ilyas doubled the margin within three minutes after restart.

Mauripur were home and dry when spearhead Muhammad Bakhsh faked his way in for 54th minute goal to make it 3-0. PPWD, who fumbled 70th minute spot-kick through midfielder Ramzan, scored a consolation goal in the injury time through wing full-back Khalil.

Group-D encounter saw Dera Ismail Khan's Dera XI held strong Higher Education Commission (HEC) to 0-0 draw.
