Cop martyred in Shikarpur ‘targeted attack’

SUKKUR: A police constable was shot dead by unknown assailants, who targeted him while he was returning home after the day’s duty in Shikarpur district on Tuesday.

According to police officials and the bereaved family, constable Niaz Hussain Wadhayo was targeted near Ratto Barrage (an irrigation channel), falling within the jurisdiction of the Garhi Yasin police station.

The family lives in in the Qaim Khan Wadhayo village. They said Niaz Wadhayo received fatal bullet wounds on his head and belly.

Sindh IGP Javed Alam Odho took a serious notice of the constable’s killing and sought a detailed report from the SSP concerned.

Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, the IGP directed the police officials concerned to provide all possible assistance, including departmental support, to them.

He also directed the SSP to ensure a transparent and impartial investigation into all aspects of the incident and to keep him informed of the progress.

IGP Odho also ordered police to intensify a search and combing operation in the area to ensure early arrest of all those involved in the attack, and also accelerate the ongoing crackdown against criminal elements in the area.
