Two killed, three injured in ‘encounters’

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two suspects had been killed and three others were arrested in injured condition after encounters with the Crime Control Department and police in separate encounters in different parts of the province.

In one incident, an alleged ‘extremely dangerous’ robber was killed during an encounter with a CCD team in the Nishatabad Police area in Faisalabad late on Monday night.

According to the police, Lyallpur Division CCD Inspector Hassan Siddique Cheema and Iqbal Division CCD Sub-Inspector Ali Ikram Goraya, along with a team, had set up a picket in the Pul Phutianwala area of Nishatabad on information about the presence of a notorious robber. Police claimed that on seeing the CCD team, three motorcycle riders started firing indiscriminately, after which the two-way firing continued for half an hour. After the firing stopped, police claimed the CCD team arrested a suspect in injured condition along with weapons, while his other accomplices had managed to escape.

Police claimed that he was shifted to the hospital, but he could not survive. The deceased was identified as Kashif alias Kashi of Chak 221 RB, who had shot and injured a citizen during a robbery and a Dolphin personnel in a police encounter. He was wanted for nearly 50 incidents of robbery, snatching cash from citizens who were carrying cash from banks, theft and robbery, police claimed.

GUJRAT: Gujranwala Police have claimed that a suspect involved in at least 60 cases of heinous crimes was killed during an encounter with the Khiyali Police on Tuesday.

A Gujranwala Police spokesperson claimed that some unidentified armed suspects opened fire at a police picket within the Khiyali police precinct. He claimed that when the firing stopped, police found a dead body, who was identified as Nadeem alias Demri, wanted in several robbery cases. He claimed that the suspect was killed by the firing of his own accomplices.

Moreover, he claimed that the deceased suspect had a criminal record of being involved in around 60 cases of heinous nature in Gujranwala and Sheikhupura districts.

The spokesperson added that at least three other suspects were arrested in injured condition while attempting to flee during police raids in different incidents.

The arrested suspects include Imran and Arfan in the Saddar Kamoke Police precinct and Shoaib in Qila Deedar Singh Police area. He said that they were wanted by the Gujranwala Police in different cases.

The spokesperson further informed that the Gujranwala City Police had arrested six suspects involved in drug peddling and displaying firearms in the Wahndo Police precinct.

Police said that the arrested suspects include Sarfraz, Asghar, Naeem and Waleed among others and they recovered 14 kilograms of hashish and weapons from them.

Meanwhile, the Mandi Bahauddin CCD claimed that no incident of robbery or dacoity had been reported in the district during the last one week of the current month and termed it a ‘historical achievement’ in the Mandi Bahauddin district.

A Mandi Bahauddin CCD spokesperson said that no such incident was reported to the police emergency 15 helpline during the previous one week. He added that the last case of robbery was lodged with the Phalia Police station in the district on June 9. He claimed that this indicated a significant drop in crime in the district. He said the situation had improved due to the efforts of the CCD.
