LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday sought an implementation report from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in petitions related to measures for controlling smog.

Justice Shahid Karim was hearing petitions filed by Haroon Farooq and others.

During the hearing, an assistant advocate general submitted a report on behalf of Rescue 1122.

According to the report, action was taken against the burning of garbage outside Paragon Housing Society.

The government’s lawyer informed the court that, in compliance with the court’s directions, a case had also been registered against the individual responsible for burning the waste. He said the fire was extinguished and the situation was brought under control.

The LDA’s counsel also submitted a report, stating that the authority had amended its 2019 regulations in accordance with the court’s orders and updated the roads of Lahore. He claimed that Lahore was now different from other cities due to various measures taken to improve conditions.

The LDA counsel further informed the court that Tollinton Market had been renovated and converted into a state-of-the-art facility.

After hearing the submissions, the judge sought progress reports from different departments and adjourned the proceedings for next week.
