NAWABSHAH, Feb 9: The railway traffic remained suspended between Tando Adam and the upcountry, following the derailment of Oil Special between Daur and Bandhi railway stations on the Nawabshah-Rohri railway section on Saturday morning.

According to railway sources, the Oil Special was heading for Multan when 29 wagons full with oil derailed between the two stations.

As a result both Up and Down tracks were blocked and the railway traffic came to a halt.

According to railway sources in Karachi out of 29 derailed wagons, 22 capsized and their oil spilled away. The loss is being calculated.

All trains coming to and going from Karachi were stopped at various railway stations.

The derailment occurred at about 8am after which the rescue train was dispatched which cleared the blocked tracks after about four hours allowing the movement of trains.

All morning battery trains, including Lahore Express, Shalimar Express, Awam Express and Tezrao suffered a detention of about 4 hours.

An inquiry into the mishap has been ordered by the railway authorities.—APP

Our correspondent adds: The accident took place because of a technical fault, a railway official told Dawn.
