GUJRAT: The anti-corruption establishment (ACE) has booked former chief officer of Gujrat Municipal Corporation (GtMC) in yet another case of corruption as he has already been in the jail in two case.

The fresh case against Khaliq Daad Gara has been lodged with the Gujrat ACE circle wherein at least four other officials of the civic agency belonging to the planning and design sections and two owners of a commercial building, have also been nominated suspects.

According to the first information report, former CO Khalid Gara, Municipal Officer (Planning) Imran Shah, former buildings inspectors Saqlain Raza and Mirza Imtiaz Baig, three brothers Shuja Ali, Ammar Tahir and Habeeb Ali have been nominated in the graft case.

As per the accusations levelled by complainant Irfan Mughal, the suspects have caused a loss of Rs4.5 million to the national exchequer by assessing less fee for the approval of the design of a commercial building located at Servis Morr along the old GT road.

The officials of the civic agency have been accused of causing a loss to GtMC after receiving a hefty bribe for allowing the conversion without formal approval from the DPDC (the district planning and development committee).

Moreover, the ACE would also conduct an inquiry against two junior officials of the record room.

Khaliq Daad Gara has been in the jail for the last many months as his release orders were issued by the court in the first case lodged against him on the corruption charges but the ACE Gujranwala had again arrested him in a second case and now another case is registered.

Former chief officers of Gujranwala Municipal Corporation GMC Haider Ali Chatha and Hafizabad district council were also arrested by the ACE during the last six months on graft charges.

MURDER: A man killed his 45-year-old wife reportedly over some honour-related issue in Ismael Town in Tatley Aali police precincts, Gujranwala, on Wednesday.

The suspect later courted arrest.

Reports said suspect Amjad Hussain suspected his wife Nighat Bibi of having loose morals due to which he killed her with a sharp-edged weapon at home.

Police and Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) teams reached the spot and collected evidence from the crime scene whereas the Rescue 1122 officials shifted the body to Noshehra Virkan Tehsil Headquarter Hospital.

Police have arrested the suspect and are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old youth was shot at and injured in firing by two motorcyclists at Barsa village along Bhimbher road, Gujrat.

Reports said Muhammad Aadil was busy in farming when the motorcyclists opened fire at him and fled.

The youth sustained bullet injuries to his leg and was later shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital. Police are investigating the matter.
