Met Office forecasts rain in Pindi, Islamabad from today

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday predicted a spell of rain accompanied by gusty winds in upper parts of the country from June 16 to June 20.

According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is likely to approach upper parts of the country from June 16 and likely to persist till June 20. Moist currents from Arabian Sea are also likely to penetrate upper and central parts of the country from June 16.

Under the influence of this weather system, scattered dust/windstorm and rain-thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls/hailstorm) is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Noorputhal, Bhakkar, Layyah Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Kot Addu from June 16 to June 20 with occasional gaps.

Scattered rain-wind/thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls/hailstorm) is expected in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from June 16 to June 22 and Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) from June 18 to June 22 with occasional gaps.

Moreover, scattered dust/windstorm and rain-thunderstorm (with few heavy falls/hailstorm) is expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram.

Dust/windstorm and rain-thunderstorm is also expected in north/northeastern parts (Zhob, Sherani, Ziarat, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Quetta, Qillah Saifullah, Qillah Abdullah, Harnai, Sibbi, Barkhan, Khuzdar and Dera Bugti).

Similar weather conditions are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad. Duststorm with light rain is also likely in Karachi and surrounding areas.

The PMD warned that strong windstorm/hailstorm and lightning may damage weak structures. Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore and Faisalabad.
