PESHAWAR: The district administration on Sunday arrested 67 shopkeepers for selling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) on high prices and also sealed 53 shops in different parts of the Peshawar district.

The officers of the district administration have launched crackdown on LPG sellers on the directives of deputy commissioner Peshawar Capt (R) Sanaullah Khan, according to a statement issued here.

The deputy commissioner took strict notice of arbitrary price increases by some LPG dealers in the provincial capital and directed administrative officers to immediately launch a special crackdown on LPG shops across Peshawar.

On the deputy commissioner’s orders, administrative officers carried out detailed inspections of LPG shops and markets in various areas including tehsil city, Shah Alam, Saddar and Mattani tehsil.

During the inspections, many dealers were found failing to display the official rate list, while several were caught charging rates higher than the government-notified prices.

For profiteering and violation of government orders, a total of 67 LPG dealers were arrested and 53 shops were sealed.

The DC said that unjust profiteering, artificial inflation and exploitation of the public in an essential commodity like LPG will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

All administrative officers have been directed to continue strict monitoring of LPG shops and initiate immediate legal action in case of violations.
