Ex-senator Taj Afridi dies in motorway accident

SWABI: Former senator Taj Mohammad Afridi died in an accident on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway near Karnal Sher Khan Interchange here on Friday.

Rescue officials and police said the former senator belonged to Khyber district and was on his way to Islamabad from Peshawar, along with his driver.

“Afridi’s car met with an accident near Karnal Sher Khan Interchange on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway, resulting in his death on the spot. His driver sustained minor injuries,” Saqib Shah, Rescue 1122 Swabi spokesperson, said.

The body and the injured were taken to Mardan Medical Complex.

According to information, the accident occurred due to a mechanical fault in the vehicle. The deceased remained a member of the Senate from March 2015 to March 2021. He also remained provincial caretaker minister for relief and rehabilitation.
