BAHAWALPUR: Another male suspected monkeypox patient has tested positive at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), Bahawalpur on Thursday taking the total number of mpox cases at the BVH to four.

Earlier, two male and a female patients tested positive and they were being treated at the BVH.

BVH MS Dr Abdul Rehman Chandio toldDawnthat the first mpox patient in the city came from Dubai, where he was involved in the cattle business and he bought the virus from Dubai. From this patient, the MS added, a BVH staff nurse during treatment contracted the virus and she fell prey to the mpox virus. In addition, he said, the other two patients were his brothers, who had been looking after him during his treatment at the BVH.

The MS praised the doctors and nurses, and said that despite the challenges they had been providing treatment with dedication and without any fear, and because of this, the situation was now well under-control.

BVH Coordinator Dr Muhammad Rizwan toldDawnthat the new patient’s samples were referred to a laboratory in Lahore, which declared him positive and he was being kept in isolation at the BVH. He, however, said that there was no cause for worry as the patients were in isolation. He said that the BVH staff nurse would be completing her 21 mandatory days of isolation in the next week, after which she would be allowed out of isolation.

He said that other two under-treatment patients were under constant observation and their condition was being monitored round the clock and the treatment was ongoing. He said they were also signs of recovery with no fever and no spots on their bodies.
