DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two suspected robbers in police encounter on Tank Road in the Zafarabad area of Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday, police said.

According to a police official, the incident occurred when a police team led by DSP suburban circle Hafiz Mohammad Adnan responded to information about a robbery attempt in the area.

Police said an exchange of fire took place between the suspects and law enforcement personnel upon their arrival at the scene. As a result of the encounter, two suspected robbers were killed on the spot. Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace any possible accomplices.

One of the deceased was identified as Nasrullah, a resident of Wanda Baloch, while the identification of the second suspect could not be immediately ascertained, police said.

Authorities said timely action by the police helped foil the robbery attempt and prevent any further incidents in the area. Meanwhile, body of an unidentified man was recovered from the CRBC canal near Amin Head in the jurisdiction of Prova police station, police said on Thursday.

According to police, the body was found floating in the canal and was retrieved by local authorities and shifted it to a hospital for medico-legal formalities. Meanwhile, employees of Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Fire Brigade set up a protest camp at GPO Chowk, Dera Ismail Khan, on Thursday against non-payment of salaries and overtime dues, urging authorities to address their grievances without further delay.

The protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans, said they had not received their salaries for the past six months. They also claimed that overtime payments had remained unpaid for nearly a year, causing severe financial hardship for employees and their families.

The workers said prolonged delay in payments had made it increasingly difficult for them to meet household expenses, with some families facing serious economic distress.

“We continue to perform our duties despite not receiving salaries for months, but the situation has become unbearable,” one of the protesters said.
