KABUL: Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto said here tonight [June 10] that he will make every endeavour to bring the brotherly peoples of Pakistan and Afghanistan as close as possible. Speaking at a banquet he hosted in honour of President Daud he said during his talks with President Daud, he tried in good faith to come to grips about “whatever stands between us. Whatever there is, there is, call it by any name or words. They are not important”, he added. The [PM] said that he wished to see that the future generation is not drowned by dew drops. … [He] said he wished that future generations should not live in the conditions ... witnessed by this generation.

He said the former leaders should have tried to bring the people of the two countries closer. About his discussions with the Afghan leader, he said they were ... useful, without compromising the interests of Afghanistan and Pakistan. … Replying to [PM] Bhutto’s speech President Daud assured him of the friendly sentiments of the Government and the people of Afghanistan. During these talks “we are able to understand each other’s positions,” he added.
