TAXILA: Police in Hazro town of Attock arrested a man and registered a criminal case against him for allegedly sharing content on social media deemed offensive to state institutions and capable of inciting public hostility.

According to police officials, the accused, a native of Bangai village, posted “derogatory remarks against national institutions” and sought to promote “hatred and negative sentiment” among the public.

An FIR has been lodged under section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relates to statements conducive to public mischief.

Officials maintained that the action was taken after authorities reviewed the material and concluded that it warranted legal proceedings. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.

Meanwhile, police in Hazro town of Attock on Wednesday raided a gambling den involving rooster fights, arresting six gamblers and seizing cash worth Rs457,000 along with fighting roosters, officials said.

According to details, Hazro Police received a tip-off during routine patrolling that several individuals were engaged in gambling on a cockfight in open fields near Mohalla Bani, close to a local graveyard.

Acting swiftly on the information, police formed a raiding team and carried out a targeted operation at the site. The suspects were found actively participating in betting on rooster fights.

Upon seeing the police, they attempted to flee while trying to conceal the gambling money, but the police managed to apprehend five individuals on the spot.

Police recovered a total stake money of Rs457,000 along with four fighting roosters from their possession. A case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway.
