PESHAWAR/QUETTA: Six Federal Constabulary personnel were martyred and four received injuries while responding to an attempt by terrorists to capture a post in Peshawar’s Hassan Khel area on Monday, sources told Dawn.

The forces managed to foil the attempt to capture the post and killed eight terrorists in retaliatory action, sources said, adding that three personnel had been abducted by the assailants.

The funeral prayers of the fallen soldiers were offered at the FC headquarters, which were attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry and others. Both ministers also met the families of the martyred personnel and paid homage.

The KP police chief, Federal Constabulary commandant, the Federal Investigation Agency director general, the National Police Academy commandant, IG Frontier Corps North, and other senior officials were also present at this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naqvi said that the sacrifices of the martyred personnel would not go in vain.

The FC commandant also briefed the interior minister on the incident.

Balochistan operation

Meanwhile in Balochistan, security forces killed 14 terrorists in an intelligence-based operation, wherein one soldier embraced martyrdom, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.

The military’s media wing said that on June 8, intelligence reports were received regarding the presence of terrorists belonging to “Indian proxy, Fitna al Hindustan, in Naal area of District Basima, Balochistan”.

The state has designated Balochistan-based separatist groups as Fitna al Hindustan to highlight India’s alleged role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan.

The terrorists were reportedly planning an attack on a nearby police station and banks in the general area, added the ISPR.

“On receipt of the information, swift action was undertaken by security forces and an intelligence-based operation was launched to thwart the nefarious designs of the terrorists.” The military said that during the operation, the movement of “terrorists was effectively checked and engaged by own forces punitively”. After an intense fire exchange, 14 terrorists were killed, while multiple terrorists were injured, it added.

Security forces also destroyed four vehicles and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the operation. However, Lance Havildar Muhammad Abbas was martyred after fighting gallan-tly with the terrorists, the ISPR said.

On June 5, security forces killed six terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, the military’s media affairs wing said.
