MARDAN: An armed suspect shot dead a youth, who was brought to a court in the Takht Bhai Tehsil Complex in police custody for a hearing on Tuesday.

The gunfire caused panic and chaos in the judicial complex. However, the attacker later surrendered to the police, along with his pistol.

Officials said the Shergarh police had brought a murder suspect, Amjad, 38, to appear before a judicial magistrate.

During the court appearance, Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Doshera, Charsadda, opened fire on him with a pistol, killing him on the spot. After the shooting, Jabbar surrendered himself and the weapon to police officers present at the scene.

A Rescue 1122 team shifted the body to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Reports indicate that Amjad had been brought to court in handcuffs.

According to the shooter, he had avenged the murder of his brother.
