NAWABSHAH: A large number of people staged a rally in Naushahro Feroze on Tuesday to demand safe recovery of former director Excise and Taxation Department and columnist Saeed Memon.

Led by family members of Mr Memon, who was abducted around a month ago, were joined by lawyers, journalists, students and members of civil society.

The rally started from Tharu Shah Stop and ended at Allah Wala Chowk.

Addressing the protesters, Amjad Memon, Syed Mukhtiar Shah, M Zafar Tagar and others said Mr Memon was kidnapped when he was returning from Balochistan on May 17.

They said that 24 days had passed but there was no update regarding his whereabouts.

They said that a statement by veteran politician Akhtar Mengal had given some hope. They called upon Baloch leaders, Sindh and Balochistan chief ministers to take measures and ensure safe recovery of Mr Memon.

Last week, the US chapter of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) had staged a protest demonstration in the United States and demanded the safe recovery of the former official of the Sindh excise department.
