PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has said that the provincial government is taking steps to ensure welfare, protection, and provision of a conducive working environment for journalists.

He expressed these views while administering the oath to the newly-elected cabinet of Lower Mohmand Press Club here on Monday. MPA from Mohmand district Mehboob Sher was also present on the occasion.

Congratulating the new office-bearers, including president Gul Hussain Mohmand, senior vice-president Shams Mohmand and other cabinet members, the minister said press clubs were being regularly consulted to ensure resolution of issues confronting the media community.

Mr Jan said the government would soon introduce an interest-free loan scheme for media professionals.

He added that grants for press clubs would also be released soon, enabling them to meet their operational and developmental needs. The minister expressed hope that the newly-elected cabinet would play an effective role in promoting journalistic values, highlighting public issues, and projecting a positive image of the region.

The press club president requested the minister to ensure the construction of a press club building and the installation of a solar power system.

Shafi Jan assured him of full cooperation in this regard.
