Children’s quarrel claims woman’s life

BAHAWALPUR: Children’s quarrel allegedly claimed the life of a woman at Shahoo Channar village in the Musafirkhana police station limits, about 40kms from here, on Bahawalpur-Ahmedpur East Highway.

According to the police and Rescue 1122, the grandchildren of Kausar Parveen (60) had a quarrel with the children of Afsana Bibi, her neighbor.

After the quarrel, Kausar reprimandedAfsana’s five-year-old son,Muhammad Ali, which enraged Afsana, who attacked the elderly woman with a club, leaving her dead on the spot.

Responding to emergency calls made by locals, teams of Rescue 1122 and police rushed to the scene. The rescuers found the elderly woman dead.

The police, after completion of legal procedures, shifted the body to the Bahawal VictoriaHospital (BVH) for the postmortem examination. An FIR was yet to be registered, as the police waited for a formal complaint by Kausar’s husband.

CONVICTION: Vehari Additional Sessions Judge Syed Muhammad Umar awarded a 12-and-a-half-year jail term, along with a Rs100,000 fine, to a man for attempted rape and sexual harassment of a minor girl at Luddan.

According to the prosecution, the convict, Afzaal, barged into the house of the minor girl and attempted to rape her. On hearing the girl’s screams, locals rushed to the scene and rescued her, while the suspect managed to escape.
