LAHORE: A dust storm followed by rain swept across most parts of south Punjab on Wednesday evening, bringing relief from the intense heat and making the weather pleasant, besides causing electricity supply disruptions and leaving five people injured in separate wall-collapse incidents in Muzaffargarh.

Strong dust-raising winds hit Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur and adjoining districts before rain and thunderstorms lashed several areas, significantly lowering temperatures after days of hot and humid weather.

Rescue 1122 reported three wall-collapse incidents in Muzaffargarh, caused by windstorm, leaving five persons – a woman, a man and three children – injured. In Multan, light rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, started after the windstorm.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) placed its field staff on high alert to deal with any urban flooding situation.

The rain and dust storm also affected electricity supply across the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) region.

According to Mepco, multiple feeders tripped in Muzaffargarh, DG Khan, Multan, Khanewal and Bahawalpur circles due to strong winds and rain, temporarily disrupting power supply in several localities.
