LRCA elections set for June 19

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announce on Wednesday that elections for the five newly formed zones of the Lahore Region Cricket Association (LRCA) will be held on June 19.

According to the election schedule, the process — from the submission of nomination papers to the publication of the final list of candidates — will run from June 8 to June 17.

The PCB recently increased the number of LRCA zones from three to five in view of Lahore’s growing population and the increase in the number of affiliated cricket clubs.

Previously, the region comprised three zones — East, West and North. Under the new structure, the zones have been renamed Ravi, City, Model Town, Cantt and Shalimar.

Although the PCB has yet to issue a formal notification regarding the increase in the number of zones, the announcement of the election schedule effectively confirms the restructuring of the Lahore region.

Meanwhile, several prospective candidates, who have already begun their election campaigns, have urged the PCB to retain the existing representation formula under which two teams from each zone participate in PCB-recognised tournaments.

They expressed concern that if only one team is allowed from each of the five zones, the total number of participating teams from the Lahore region would decrease from six to five despite the increase in the number of zones.
