NAWABSHAH: Six people, including women and children, were killed when a heavy dust storm followed by rain struck Shaheed Benazirabad district late on Tuesday night, according to the district’s information department.

The victims died in separate incidents of roof and wall collapses across the district.

The bodies and wounded were taken to nearby health facilities; a large number of injured were treated at Peoples Medical Hospital, Nawabshah.

The storm brought down electricity poles and transmission lines, plunging the entire region into darkness for the night. Trees, solar panels and billboards also came down across Nawabshah city and in Naushahro Feroze, Kandiaro, Moro, Bandhi, Daur and surrounding towns. Widespread property damage was also reported.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Samad Nizamani, Mayor Qazi Rasheed Bhatti and Deputy Mayor Mubashir Arain visited the hospital, met the injured and directed that full medical facilities be made available.
