SHANGLA/SWAT: Nine people, including six children, were killed in separate roof collapse incidents in Shangla and Swat districts on Tuesday, rescue and police officials said.

Six children from the same family were killed, and another was injured when the roof of a mud house collapsed in Alpuri tehsil of Shangla district, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson said on Tuesday.

He said seven children were buried under the debris when the roof of their house collapsed in the early morning in Rahimabad Bassi area.

He said rescue teams responded immediately to the emergency call, began the operation, and recovered the bodies within an hour.

He said all of the children were sleeping when the incident occurred. Six of them died, while the condition of the injured child was also critical.

The deceased were identified as 14-year-old Nazira Bibi, 13-year-old Samira Bibi, five-year-old Rizwanullah, seven-year-old Nayab, five-year-old Haya Noor, and 12-year-old Umaira, while the injured was identified as 11-year-old Marwa.

Meanwhile, three people, including two sisters, were killed and two others injured in separate roof collapse incidents in Swat on Tuesday.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the roof of a mud house collapsed in the Gand Dheri area of Charbagh, trapping eight family members under the debris. Rescue personnel, assisted by residents, launched an operation and managed to pull four people out alive.

A young girl, Horeen, and her mother were rescued, treated for injuries, and shifted to a hospital. However, the bodies of two sisters, eight-year-old Shema and six-year-old Manahil, were recovered from the rubble.

In a separate incident in the Paloga area of Kalam, the roof of a room in a mud-built hotel collapsed, killing 32-year-old Waqar, a resident of Malakand, who was trapped beneath the debris. Rescue workers and residents retrieved his body from the collapsed structure.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, particularly in old and mud-built structures, following the tragic incidents.

Last month, three children were killed, and a couple was seriously injured after the roof of a house collapsed in the Prang Majoki area of Charsadda district.
