RAWALPINDI: The local administration has urged religious scholars belonging to all schools of thought to play their role in promoting brotherhood and harmony during Muharram and help the government maintain peace.

In this regard, an “Itehad Bainul Muslimeen conference” was held here with Mufti Dr Intikhab Ahmad Noori, Chairman of the United Ulema Board Punjab and member Ideological Council Pakistan in the chair.

The conference was attended by Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak, Regional police Officer Babar Sarfraz Alpa, Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Mufti Noori said it is the responsibility of all to maintain peace and harmony in the country. He said our forces defeated the enemy in a decisive battle. The entire nation stands with our brave forces for the safety and security of Pakistan. Pakistan has emerged as the centre of peace on the world stage, which is not being digested by the enemy. He stated that the Punjab government had a clear vision that there was no scope for any kind of extremism in the province.

“We all need to watch the enemy and keep a close eye on social media. The enemy can spread evil through fake accounts. More than 80,000 Pakistanis, including soldiers, civilians and scholars, were martyred in the war against terrorism,” he said.

Commissioner Khattak said ulema have always played a constructive role in maintaining law and order. He urged the religious scholars to cooperate with the administration.

“Interaction of administration, police and ulema is necessary to maintain law and order in Muharram,” he said.

RPO Sarfraz Alpa said that effective security arrangements will be ensured in Muharram as usual.

“Comprehensive security arrangements will be ensured in consultation with all stakeholders, including scholars,” he said. Deputy Commissioner Cheema said ulema are ambassadors of peace. Just as the forces of Pakistan fought the enemy, ulema should fight evil and hatred in society.
