The US State Department has announced new sanctions against entities, individuals, and vessels to cut off what it describes as the financial lifelines of the Iranian military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Al Jazeera reports.

The targets of the sanctions include:

  • Eight entities and eight vessels blocked for transporting Iranian petroleum or petrochemical products.
  • Three entities and one individual sanctioned for their involvement in the Iranian-origin petrochemical trade.
  • Concurrently, the Treasury Department has sanctioned Hong Kong-based entities for managing a multibillion-dollar Iranian oil sales network, the State Department said.
