Five killers get death

SIALKOT, July 5: An additional district and sessions judge has handed down death sentence on seven counts with Rs50,000 fine each to five convicts in a murder case registered by Uggoki police.

According to prosecution, Akhtar Shaikh, Umar Hayat, Amanullah Cheema, Sajid Mahmood and Zaheer Abbas had killed members of landlord Abdul Ghani’s family in Model Town, Uggoki, on Jan 18, 2005.

GANG SMASHED: Police have smashed an inter district gang of kidnappers and arrested four people who had kidnapped a youth for ransom about one and half months ago.

DPO Dr Tariq Khokhar told newsmen here that accused Taskeen, Falak Sher, Kalimullah and Mubashar alias Mithu had kidnapped Rizwan, son of exporter Akram, for ransom on May 14 from Doburji Malhiyaan locality.

The kidnappers had demanded Rs20 million as ransom. Later, they struck a deal with the family and released the youth after getting Rs1.5 million ransom.

The DPO said a huge contingent of police raided their den and arrested them.

He said the ring leader of the gang, Ejaz Ahmad alias Baba Gujjar, former nazim of union council Hundal, was still at large.

The DPO said the accused had divided the ransom money and built their luxury residences in the posh localities of Sialkot city.
