RAWALPINDI: Police raids were underway to arrest the killers of two persons, who were murdered over just Rs1,200.

Besides, Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 (7-ATA) is likely to be added to the FIR registered on the complaint of the father of Zain Shah, who was tortured, kidnapped, and killed.

The initial postmortem report also suggested that Zain was tortured to death.

Both were killed-- one was shot dead, while the other was beaten, dragged in the street, and kidnapped by his rivals. Zain’s body, bearing torture marks, was later found abandoned in an open field in the Dhamial police area.

Zain, a resident of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Town, Chakri Road, came to Siraj Mehsud’s grocery shop, where they had an altercation over the monetary dispute. However, the issue was settled at that time, stated the FIR registered by Mohammad Sharif, brother of Siraj, 25.

He said when his cousin and others went to Zain’s house to complain, Aun Chaudhry, along with two other persons, used abusive language against them. Chaudhry allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot Siraj dead.

After the murder of Siraj, his supporters went to Zain’s house, attacked him, dragged him in the street, and later murdered him.

Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, a resident of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Town, lodged a cross-FIR with the Dhamial police, alleging that he was on duty when his wife informed him that about 28 to 30 individuals attacked their son Zain, tortured him, and then abducted him.

He said when he arrived at his house, his wife informed him that about 30 people — 17 of them identified — who were carrying batons beat up Zain. One of them, identified as Irshad, attacked her son with an axe, which injured him critically.

The FIR alleged that Bilal alias Thakur brought a piece of rope and wrapped it around his son’s neck with the help of Adnan alias Janu.

“They then dragged him in the street and later Irshad, Bilal, and Adnan forcibly kidnapped her semi-conscious son on their motorcycle.”

The FIR was registered against 30 individuals, including Siraj’s friends, for torture, violation of the sanctity of the body, and hurling threats of dire consequences, etc. A police source said that Section 7-ATA 1997 is also to be added to the FIR registered on the complaint of Zain’s father.

A police spokesman said there was a quarrel over a minor transaction dispute during which Siraj and his friends went outside Zain’s house, where Siraj was killed by fire from Zain’s friends.

Later, Siraj’s supporters/friends tortured Zain Shah and took him away, whose body was later found.

The spokesman said that the report of dragging the man will be confirmed only after the postmortem report is received; however, no such evidence has come to light yet.

The Punjab police chief (IGP) has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the Rawalpindi district police.
