LEICESTER (England), July 3: Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria grabbed four quick wickets before an unbeaten century from Shoaib Malik helped Pakistan brush side Leicestershire in the opening tour match by eight wickets on Monday.
Leicestershire were dismissed for just 191 in their second innings to leave the tourists the relatively simple task of knocking off 203 which they managed with ease.
After resuming the third and final day at 45 for two, Leicestershire lost Darren Robinson and captain Jeremy Snape early.
But 21-year-old Tim New and John Sadler shared a fifth-wicket stand of 105 before the rot set in. New played a steady hand of 67 while the adventurous Sadler hit 11 fours in making a 58-ball 51.
Kaneria, brought on after lunch, ran through the lower-order to take four for 32 as Leicestershire lost their last five wickets for 10 runs in just six overs.
Shoaib, promoted to open to give him time in the middle, hammered an excellent 110 after Imran Farhat and Salman Butt both fell cheaply to Chris Liddle.
Younis Khan, the captain, ended up with a breezy 55 with six fours and one six while Shoaib’s 124-ball innings contained 12 fours and three sixes. The pair added 153 in only 96 minutes.
