BANNU: A suspected suicide attack was carried out on the Fatehkhel police checkpost in Bannu, using an explosives-laden vehicle that triggered multiple powerful explosions followed by intense gunfire in the area.

According to sources, at least four explosions occurred during the attack, with the sound of blasts heard from far-off areas, spreading fear and panic among local residents.

Initial reports suggest that an explosives-filled vehicle rammed into the Fatehkhel checkpost, after which militants opened heavy fire from several directions. Sources said there are reports of police personnel and civilians casualties in the attack.

Following the incident, additional contingents of Bannu police reached the site, while rescue teams were also dispatched. Sources further claimed that communication with the Fatehkhel police checkpost was temporarily disrupted after the attack.

RPO Bannu Region Sajjad Khan is personally leading the police operation. According to police officials, Bannu police personnel are responding with bravery, courage, and professional skill, while a search operation has been launched after cordoning off the area.

Reports also indicate that nearby civilian areas suffered severe damage due to the explosions. Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in all three hospitals of Bannu.

Police checkpoints and snap-checking have been intensified across the city, while local residents have also come out to support the police. Security agencies are closely monitoring the situation.
