RAWALPINDI: Two suspects involved in the murder of a security guard in Rawat area were killed during an ‘encounter’ with police on Friday.

A police spokesman said since the Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) had been active in investigating serious crimes, a five-member team led by Inspector Feroze was on the way to recover and identify the murder weapon along with the two suspects, Ibad and Ashfaq, who had been arrested four months ago in Rawat area for allegedly killing a guard and injuring others.

In the meantime, their accomplices riding a car and a motorcycle attacked the police team near Mughal Padi Rawat Industrial Estate and after a fierce resistance, freed both the suspects and escaped.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani took notice and immediately reached the spot and assigned the task of tracing the suspects. Following the suspects’ escape, the entire district was cordoned off.

Meanwhile, the police received information from the Saddar Bairooni area that five people had snatched a vehicle. When the police team led by SHO Saddar Bairooni tried to stop the suspicious vehicle, the suspects opened fire on the police team.

As a result of the crossfire, the two suspects, Ashfaq and Ibad were killed, while their accomplices managed to escape. Police said weapons were also recovered from the two suspects killed during the encounter.

On information, senior police officers reached the spot and started searching for the absconding accomplices of the suspects.

CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani praised SP Saddar and Saddar Bairooni police for their brave fight despite the firing of the suspects and said those who attack citizens and police cannot escape the clutches of law.

Meanwhile, two people were killed during a clash over a dispute of Rs1200 in Pahar Mehr Ali Shah Town in Dhamial police station area on Friday.

According to initial reports, Siraj, 25, was seriously injured during the fight and died while being taken to the hospital.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that another person had been killed in the fight. Police said that Zain and others had an argument with the shopkeeper over a dispute of Rs1200 which led to the clash between the two parties.

A shopkeeper was shot and killed in the dispute, and then his opponents beat him to death with sticks, police said. A police spokesman said that the incident occurred over minor arguments between the two parties. However, investigation was launched by the police from all angles.
