LAHORE: Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, recently transferred from the Islamabad High Court, on Monday commenced judicial work at the Lahore High Court principal seat and heard multiple petitions related to family matters.

Hearing such a petition, Justice Kayani turned down a request to suspend a trial court’s decision fixing a visitation schedule of a child with her father.

The petition was filed by the child’s mother, Humaira Bibi.

During the hearing, the judge summoned the 15-year-old girl, Zainab, to the rostrum and asked whether she was unwilling to meet her father.

The girl said her parents had divorced 10 years ago and she had been raised by her mother since then. She said she did not want to meet her father.

Justice Kayani observed that the girl should consider meeting her father at least once as an opportunity to reconsider might help improve the situation.

The girl, however, maintained that she did not wish to meet her father.

The judge observed that it was the father’s responsibility to win over his daughter’s affection.

The judge did not set aside the trial court’s order, however, clarified that the girl would not be forced to meet her father, nor would any warrants be issued by the trial court if she refuses.

The judge issued a notice to the respondent-father and adjourned the hearing till May 16.
