KARACHI, July 2: A woman was shot dead and her son sustained minor injuries during an armed holdup near Gulshan-i-Jamal early Sunday morning.

A duty officer of the Shahrea Faisal police station said Noor Jehan, wife of Major (retd) Mehmood Gul, had come to visit her daughter’s house in Gulshan-i-Jamal Block D with her son Mohammad Gul.

On their way back, they were intercepted by two persons on a motorcycle near Rashid Minhas Road. They held the mother and son at gunpoint and deprived them of their valuables.

“Probably they tried to put up resistance or had an exchange of hot words with the bandits, provoking them into opening fire,” the duty officer said.

Following the incident the woman was rushed to the Jinnah Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

An FIR was registered on Sunday at the Shahrea Faisal police station against unknown suspects.

ACCIDENT: A 14-year-old boy died in a hit-and-run accident in Saeedabad on Sunday.

Police said Arif was crossing the road in New Abadi when a speeding passenger coach knocked him down. He was taken to the nearby Murshid Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
