LONDON, July 1: Patrons at matches heard making racist remarks and making obscene gestures during next year's World Cup will be ejected from the ground and will face further punishment, such as being banned from future matches.

ICC's anti-racism code of conduct states: “Spectators shall not engage in any conduct, act towards or speak to any player, umpire, referee or other official or other spectators in a manner which offends, insults, humiliates, intimidates, threatens, disparages or vilifies that other person on basis of that other person's race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin.

“Spectators are reminded that racially abusive comments and actions will result in ejection from the ground and possible further action.”

The matter will be examined closely when ICC board of directors meet in London on Sunday.

At the meeting, new ICC president Percy Soon of South Africa will take over from Ehsan Mani of Pakistan.

ICC manager media and communications, Brian Murgatroyd said several recommendations on tackling racism in the sport would be examined.
