SIALKOT, July 1: A local court on Saturday awarded one-month rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of Rs500,000 to a marriage hall owner on violation of Marriage Act.

According to the prosecution, Mian Muhammad Javaid had served different dishes to guests during a wedding ceremony held at his marriage hall on April 10, 2006. Later, local officials had arrested him. The convict has been sent to Sialkot district jail.

It is the first incident when a local court has convicted a marriage hall owner for violating the Marriage Act.
