BAHAWALPUR, July 1: Yazman police claimed to have killed a proclaimed offender wanted in many cases of heinous crime here on Saturday in an encounter near Head Rajkan.

The police claimed that the outlaw , Arshad alias Achoo, was wanted in scores of dacoity, robbery and kidnap-for-ransom cases.

According to the police, Arshad looted the house of one Qasim in Musafir Khana police jurisdiction and took refuge in a house at Chak 66-DB. The police surrounded the house and told the outlaw to surrender but he refused to do so.

There was an exchange of fire in which Arshad was killed while five other members of his gang, including a woman, managed to escape. His body was sent to Bahawal Victoria Hospital for autopsy.

The police have registered a case against the five absconding outlaws under sections 353, 324, 148, 149 and 186 of the PPC.

PROTEST RALLIES: Two separate protest rallies were organised here; one by the All Pakistan Clerks Association and the other by motorcycle-rickshaw drivers, for the acceptance of their demands.

The Apca rally was brought out from the DO Buildings’ office, to protest alleged manhandling of a clerk by some contractors.

Meanwhile, the owners and drivers of motorcycle rickshaws condemned levy of Rs2 per round tax by the TMA.

TMO said the tax had been approved by Tehsil council.
