KOHAT, July 1: A Rs9919.7 million budget for Kohar district for 2006-7 was presented in the district council on Saturday with a development outlay of Rs19.78 million and no new tax.

The district nazim, while presenting the budget, said Rs899.923 million had been set aside for non-development expenditure, whereas Rs12.05 million would be spent in communications, education and health sectors.

He said Rs3.9 million had been allocated for construction of 10 high schools, 20 middle schools and 40 primary schools, Rs5.15 million for 10 basic health units, five civil dispensaries, two mother and child health care centres and Rs3 million for the development of the dairy and agriculture sectors.

The district government will spend Rs5 million received as additional grant from the provincial government on road projects.

He said the district government expected to earn Rs2.868 million from its own resources.

He said 10 per cent of Rs1.6189 provided by the provincial government for non-developmental expenditure would be spent on the district council secretariat and the rest would be distributed equally among the 32 union councils.

He said the allocations made in the light of Provincial Finance Commission’s principles were: Rs4.946 million for citizens’ community boards, Rs390,000 for sports, Rs7.915 million for roads and drinking water schemes and Rs6.529 million for other development schemes approved by the UC nazims.

The council will begin debate on the budget on Monday.
