KARACHI, July 1: The Kashmir Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has said that the MQM has fielded candidates in the elections of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly, scheduled on July 11, on the insistence of Haq Parast people of Azad Kashmir who are very much impressed with philosophy and programme of the MQM for the rule of 98 per cent.

The people, who came in contact with MQM volunteers during relief operations in the wake of devastating earthquake of Oct 14, 2004, were aspiring for a change to get rid of obsolete feudal and Sardari system, as such the MQM has fielded 26 candidates in the 41-member Assembly.

This was stated by Salim Butt, a candidate from LA-36, while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Saturday. Flanked by members of MQM Kashmir Committee Rashid Sabzwari and Saifuddin Khalid, he said leaders of certain religious and political parties, who believe in traditional politics, were panicked and upset with increasing popularity of MQM candidates, they had have started leveling allegations against the MQM.
