SAHIWAL: Constable Zahid Sukhera, wireless operator with the Pakpattan Patrolling Police and the main suspect in the kidnapping case of public school teacher Rehana Akhter—whose mutilated body was recovered by Rang Shah Police on the evening of April 21 from village 34/SP, about 25 km from her home— died in police custody.

The district police officer claimed he died of heart attack. Just hours ago his body was shifted to the Pakpattan DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

A heavy contingent of police cordoned off the hospital premises, particularly the area designated for the postmortem. At the time of filing this report at 10pm, the autopsy was underway.

DPO Javed Chaddhar told Dawn Zahid Sukhera, along with four others, was nominated in the case registered by Faridnagar Police Station on the complaint of Umer Daraz, brother of the deceased teacher and resident of Mohalla Noori, Pakpattan, on April 26.
