TAXILA:  An under-trial prisoner allegedly died by suicide inside the district jail of Attock.

According to prison sources, Asif Ali had been arrested earlier this month by Hassanabdal police in connection with a drug-related case. He was shifted to the district jail on April 10.

Officials said the inmate was found dead in his cell under circumstances suggesting suicide as he hanged himself with his drawstring.

The body was shifted to the district headquarters hospital.

Officials said the prisoner was under stress and remained under treatment and was shifted to the security ward on April 14 where he committed suicide.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated under the supervision of a judicial magistrate, Fawad Ali, to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.
