RAWALPINDI: Three suspected robbers, who shot dead a man at a grocery shop in Saddar Barooni on Thursday, were killed during an ‘encounter’ with police on Friday.

A police spokesman said the three robbers on motorcycles opened fire on police officials who were responding to an emergency call in the limits of Saddar Barooni police station. During the firing, all the three suspects were killed, while a stolen motorcycle and weapons were recovered, the spokesman said. The deceased were identified as Sarfraz, Abdullah and Asghar. They were involved in a number of robbery cases in the past too.

Earlier, Mubarak Hussain Shah lodged an FIR with the Saddar Barooni police saying that he was at his grocery shop at Adiala Road when three persons entered the store and pulled out pistols and snatched Rs70,000 from the cash box. In the meantime, Shah added, his brother-in-law Abdul Malik, 30, arrived and overpowered one of the robbers. At this, one of the armed men shot dead Malik.

On Friday, police received an emergency call that armed persons had robbed a citizen at Dhoke Baba. In response, a police team reached the spot.

On seeing the police, the robbers took up positions in a forest and opened fire on the police. A bullet hit constable Fahad, however, he remained safe due to his bulletproof jacket, said the spokesman. In the encounter, the three suspects were killed.
