ISLAMABAD: Pakistan began World Immunisation Week 2026 commemorations with renewed commitment to protect every child through vaccination.

Every year, the Federal Directorate of Immunisation (FDI), under the leadership of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, in collaboration with provincial/area EPIs and partners, observes immunisation week across Pakistan in the last week of April.

The week highlights the significant role of vaccines in protecting lives from vaccine-preventable diseases. This year’s theme, “For Every Generation, Vaccines Work,” reinforces the enduring power of vaccines in saving lives and safeguarding communities across generations.

With the call to action, “Your decision makes a difference. Get vaccinated,” the campaign emphasises the vital role of individual and collective responsibility in ensuring a healthier future for all.

In view of the current situation and in line with austerity measures, activities will primarily be conducted through digital platforms and electronic media, ensuring continued outreach, awareness, and engagement with communities nationwide.

“Routine immunisation is the foundation of a healthy nation,” said Dr Musa Khan, Director General, Federal Directorate of Immunisation.

He further added that “ensuring that every child receives all vaccines on time is critical not only for individual protection, but also for building resilient communities. It is imperative that parents ensure their children receive all routine immunisations on time, protecting them against 13 life-threatening diseases”.

Dr Khan said, “Despite significant progress, there are still children who miss out on essential vaccines, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach areas. Reaching these zero-dose children remains a top priority. Through strengthened outreach, community engagement, and building trust, we can ensure that no child is left behind.”

Reinforcing these efforts, Pakistan also continues to accelerate progress towards polio eradication as part of its broader immunisation agenda.

The Federal Directorate of Immunisation, all provincial/area EPIs along with its partners i.e. Gavi, World Health Organisation, Unicef, Gates Foundation, Polio Eradication Initiative, JHPIEGO, Oxford Policy Management, Mannion Daniels and CSOs, continue to work tirelessly to enhance immunisation coverage, strengthen service delivery, and promote awareness about the benefits of vaccination.

Special focus is being given to reaching zero-dose children, addressing misinformation, and fostering community confidence in vaccines.
