Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Ameer Naeemur Rehman has praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to facilitate negotiations between the United States and Iran, calling Islamabad’s efforts “commendable”, according to a party press release.

It adds that the JI chief, during a press conference in Karachi, said US President Donald Trump pushed his country into diplomatic isolation in the global arena, adding that he has lost both credibility and popularity in his own country.

Rehman has praised Iran’s leadership and people for what he calls “steadfastness in difficult circumstances”, adding that Iranians “challenged the arrogance of global powers”, the press release states.

“He (Rehman) termed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to facilitate negotiations between Iran and the United States as commendable, while highlighting that Washington’s conduct has historically been marked by deception,” it adds.

Criticising Trump, the JI chief has said his statements and claims had “proven contrary to ground realities, adding that the US itself had now been compelled to engage in negotiations”, according to the press release.

Rehman asserts that Washington’s global credibility has been undermined and that questions were being raised about its role with Europe, Nato and Gulf countries, it adds.

The JI adds that Rehman “endorsed Iran’s stance that no agreement would be possible unless the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz was lifted”, appreciating Saudi Arabia’s restraint and proposing the formation of a joint defence bloc — comprising Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkiye — “to strengthen the Muslim world”.
