KARACHI, June 30: Leader of the opposition in the Senate and Deputy Secretary-General of Pakistan People’s Party Mian Raza Rabbani has condemned the “attitude of Sindh and federal governments” over prevailing electricity and water crises in Karachi.

In a statement, , he said owing to persisting load shedding and water shortage in the city, people were facing immense hardship, especially children and students preparing for their exams. He held the privatization of KESC responsible for the situation.

According to him, opposition in the Senate raised this issue on a number of occasions and also referred to Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power but no meeting of the committee was held despite repeated requests, which clearly shows government's intentions.

He demanded of the Senate chairman to take notice of the government attitude and the chairman of the committee be directed to immediately hold a meeting and take decisions to improve electricity and water supply situation in Karachi.

The PPP leader appealed to the Chief Justice to take suo moto action on privatization of KESC, like he did on several other matters and get its sale cancelled to provide relief to masses.—PPI
