SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The police on Wednesday repulsed a terrorist attack on the Sholam police lines in Lower South Waziristan, sources said.

They said that unidentified attackers opened fire on the police installation, prompting the cops to retaliate. This triggered an exchange of fire between the cops and the attackers. The policemen managed to push back the attackers, forcing them to flee the area. No loss of life or property was reported in the attack.

A police spokesperson said that additional contingents were dispatched from Wana Police Lines after receiving information about the incident.

The official said a high alert had been declared across the area and urged the public to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

The reinforcement teams promptly reached the site, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Security measures were further tightened in and around the police lines, while entry and exit points of the area were sealed. The police conducted a search of the surroundings to apprehend the suspects.

Officials said the operation would continue until the perpetrators were brought to justice.
