US President Donald Trump has announced that eight women detained by Iran “will no longer be killed”, after he warned in an earlier social media post that they would be executed.

“Four will be released immediately, and four will be sentenced to one month in prison,” he says on Truth Social. “I very much appreciate that Iran, and its leaders, respected my request, as President of the United States, and terminated the planned execution.”

Yesterday, Trump claimed that eight Iranian women would be executed by the authorities and requested that they be released. However, Iran’s judiciary denied that eight women were at risk of execution, adding that Trump was “misled once again by fake news”.
