ISLALAMABAD, June 30: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has notified application of standard units of quantity in terms of recommendations of the World Customs Organisation (WCO).

The standards were notified through a customs general order no-7 issued here on Friday to facilitate the collection, comparison and analysis of trade statistics based on harmonised system. No document including goods declaration (GD) shall be accepted after August 31, 2006, if the information regarding unit of measurement/quantity declared/shown is not as per this order, added the general order.

The standard units of quantity are: Weight - kilograms (kg); carat; length - metres (M); area - square metres (M2); volume - cubic metres (M3); Litres (L); electrical power- 1,000 kilowatt hours (1,000 kw.h); number (units) - pieces/items (U); pairs (2U); dozens (12 U); thousands of pieces/items (1000 U) and packs (U Jeu/Pack).

A review of the existing Pakistan Customs Tariff (PCT) has shown that quantity/measurement used against more than 1,500 tariff lines are inconsistent with the international practice/WCO recommendations. The importers/clearing agents/shipping agents etc., are directed to furnish invoices/documents/ information accordingly.
