SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: An official of the health department was killed, and his brother was injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on them in the Sarki Kot area of Wana tehsil in Lower South Waziristan district.

The police said that Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) programme officer of the health department, Mohammad Aslam, was killed, and his brother, SDO of Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco), Noor Salam Wazir, sustained injuries in the firing.

According to district police officer Mohammad Tahir, the injured SDO was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Wana, where he was under treatment.

Police officials said the attackers managed to flee the scene. The police registered a report in the daily diary and initiated an investigation into the matter.
