LARKANA: Larkana Deputy Commissioner Tariq Manzoor Chandio on Monday visited wheat procurement centres at Rahmatpur and Wagan Road to oversee the process.
He was accompanied by Larkana Mukhtiarkar Abdul Khaliq Chandio and District Food Controller Nizakat Ali Abbasi.
During the visit, the DC met the farmers present at the procurement centres and inquired about any difficulties they were facing in selling their produce.
The growers expressed their satisfaction over the management and transparency of the procurement process.
The DC directed the staff to facilitate every farmer coming to them on a priority basis, and ensure that no one faces problem or unnecessary delays.
Under the Sindh government’s policy, only small growers who have previously benefited from the fertiliser subsidy scheme are eligible to receive the official support price for wheat at the procurement centres. The policy is aimed at protecting small growers and ensuring that government assistance reaches the deserving beneficiaries.
The DC was informed that payments to growers were being made directly into their Sindh Bank accounts. The food department issues payment receipts to growers the same day of procurement. He said that the bank transfer system must remain swift and transparent, and without any deduction. The DC also visited the storage facilities to inspect stocks of wheat bags. He directed the district food controller to ensure strict quality checks, maintain moisture levels, cleanliness and grading in accordance with the policy.
He directed the food department to achieve the assigned target of 44,000 tonnes set for the district. He stressed daily centre-wise progress monitoring and instructed all staff to work in coordination with the revenue and agriculture departments. He said that the government was committed to providing the full support price to small growers and ensuring a smooth, transparent procurement process. He commended the joint efforts of the food, revenue and agriculture departments.
