LAHORE: Stakeholders have lauded government officials for stabilising Pakistan’s auto sector, particularly the move to abolish the used car baggage import scheme.
Indus Motor Company CEO Ali Asghar Jamali commended Special Assistant to PM Haroon Akhtar, Ministry of Industries Secretary Saif Anjum, and Engineering Development Board’s Hamad Ali Mansoor for their coordinated efforts, saying the policy would boost demand for locally-assembled vehicles, support industrial growth, and create jobs.
He noted that with the abolition of the scheme in January 2026, used car imports, 42, 125 units in FY2025, are expected to decline significantly, shifting demand toward the local CKD market and strengthening domestic manufacturing.
